Environmental Health monitors four public beaches for E.coli within Ingham County for E.coli. Samples are collected from the beginning of May through to the end of September. Federal recommendations and State regulations set the limits of E.coli concentrations at public access bathing beaches. If concentrations are found to exceed these limits the decision is made to issue a public health advisory and close the beach of concern.

Environmental Health monitors a number of river & stream sites for E.coli. This is in order to establish concentrations for the main watercourses of the County in accordance with their designated uses. This program runs annually from the beginning of May to the end of September.
