Hearing Screening

The Hearing Screening Program provides school-based screenings to children in the following grades:

  • Preschool
  • Pre-kindergarten
  • Kindergarteners not tested prior to entering school
  • First grade
  • Third grade
  • Contained special education
  • Any children who received a referral in the past

Children unable to pass their hearing screening will be re-checked at the school four to six weeks later. Parents/guardians are notified after the child is unable to pass after the second screening, and are asked to follow up with the child’s primary care provider. These children are followed by ICHD technicians until they can pass a hearing screen for two consecutive school years. The Hearing Screening Program requests confirmation from the parent/guardian that the child has received follow-up care.
