In the past 10 years, prescription drug abuse has become more common among youth across the country and about 80% of people that misuse prescription drugs get medication from family members and friends through theft, buying or being given the medication. Keeping weekly records of prescription medication or properly disposing of unwanted, unused or expired prescription medication is essential to keep them out of our community and decrease youth access.

Capital Area Law Enforcement provides drop-boxes at select locations that accept controlled substances.

Ingham County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event accepts non-controlled medication every Thursday from the begging of May to the end of September.

The Coalition is a recognized authority on waste reduction, beneficial utilization, recycling and composting through the experience of its member, board, committees and staff. The Capital Area Take Back Meds program is provided by the Ingham County Health Department and is made possible through a pollution prevention grant from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality.

Access to this program for proper medicine disposal is provided to the residents of Ingham County including: Lansing, East Lansing, Okemos, Haslett, Williamston, Webberville, Holt, Mason, Dansville, Fitchburg, Leslie, Stockbridge and Edgemont Park.
