IN SUPPORT OF MAINTAINING CURRENT SMOKE FREE BANS
IN THE STATE OF MICHIGAN

RESOLUTION

The Ingham County Board of Health (BoH) by unanimous vote objected to efforts to weaken the ban on smoking in restaurants, taverns, etc.

Nancy Hayward, RN, MPH, Chair of the Board of Health noted that even after two short years the results in improved health statistics are noted. Visited the same venues, expected outcome: 80% lower indoor particulate matter pollution.

We should not let narrow interests nibble away the no smoking ban. Public Health stands behind this law for a good reason!

Closing off rooms or areas to eliminate tobacco smoke does not work! It was tried for years without success. Tobacco smoke, like its friend lung cancer will find a way to reach its target!
