ICHD to offer booster shots of all three COVID-19 vaccine types in their clinics starting Tuesday, 10/26

LANSING, Mich. – Starting October 26, 2021, the Ingham County Health Department (ICHD) will offer booster shots of all three types of the COVID-19 vaccine in their clinics. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has authorized, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) now recommends, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 booster shots, joining the already approved Pfizer booster dose.

For individuals who received a Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, the following groups are eligible for a booster shot six months or more after finishing their initial dose series: individuals age 65 years and older, individuals age 18 years or older who live in long-term care settings, individuals age 18 years or older with underlying medical conditions, and individuals age 18 years or older who live or work in high-risk settings. Individuals 18 years and older who received the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine are eligible for a booster dose at least two months after completing their primary series.

Eligible individuals may choose which vaccine they receive as a booster shot. Individuals may have a preference for the vaccine type that they originally received or they may prefer to get a different authorized vaccine type for their booster dose. For questions about which booster to receive, the health department recommends speaking with your own health care provider for advice.

“It is not uncommon that some vaccine schedules require a booster dose, such as the Tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap) vaccine booster shot that individuals are recommended to receive every 10 years. A booster shot of the COVID-19 vaccine will contribute to building longer-lasting protective immunity against the disease and its variants” said Ingham County Health Officer Linda Vail. “Eligible individuals should consider getting the COVID-19 booster shot when it is available to them to help their body’s immune response against a possible COVID-19 exposure.”

Initial vaccine doses, booster doses of all three vaccines, and the additional dose of Pfizer or Moderna for people who are immunocompromised are currently available at the ICHD COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic (5303 S. Cedar St, Lansing), every Tuesday and Friday from 9 a.m. until noon and 1:00 pm until 4:15 p.m. through December 3rd, 2021. To schedule an appointment visit https://hd.ingham.org/coronavirus or call 517-887-4623 for assistance. Please bring your COVID-19 vaccination card and identification with you to your booster appointment, if possible.

To schedule a COVID-19 vaccination appointment at one of the Ingham Community Health Centers, call 517-887-4517 (Option #3).

You do not need to receive the booster shot from the same location where you received your initial two-dose or single-dose series. The booster dose is also available at healthcare providers throughout Ingham County. To find a vaccination location near you, visit www.vaccines.gov.
