Ingham County Food Bank (ICFB), a clearinghouse for families and individuals seeking emergency food assistance in the greater Lansing area, provides: - Technical assistance to organizations interested in hosting a food pantry.
- Information and referral to other helpful community services.
- Nutritional information and educational opportunities for families seeking food assistance through collaborations with the Garden Project and Ingham County MSU Cooperative Extension.
- Special food packages for families and individuals who do not have a residence or lack kitchen facilities.
ICFB staff conducts telephone interviews to determine eligibility. Whenever possible, referrals are made to the food pantry most convenient for the caller to access. Food orders are nutritionally balanced and include both perishable and nonperishable products and a coupon for dairy and produce. Food orders are determined by need, situation, and family size and can be provided once in a thirty day period. Greater Lansing Food Bank (GLFB) purchases the food to stock food pantries which are located in churches and agencies and staffed by volunteers. Pantries also receive food through numerous food drives that are conducted annually for the GLFB. The pantry network distributes over one (1) million pounds of food annually to over 46,000 individuals.
