Board of Health

Purpose

The Board identifies public health problems and concerns, establishes priorities and advises the Board of Commissioners and the Health Department regarding community health matters and possible solutions.  The Board recommends a program of basic health services to the Commissioners.  Members review and evaluate programs and policies, and also assists the Health Department in informing the community, and Commissioners, of Health Department programs. 

Duties

The Board of Health advises the Board of Commisioners on issues that relate to public health problems, public health policy, and public health planning.  

The Board provides a broad-based focal point of community member and health professional input to the Commissioners, Human Services Committee, and the Health Department on a full range of health care programs and issues in Ingham County.

The Board of Health  participates in state and local organizations, conferences, and seminars to improve their knowledge of public health, as well as share information from Ingham County.

The Board also serves as the Sanitary Appeals Board, pursuant to the Ingham County Sanitary Ordinance.
