Free nicotine patches, gum or lozenges available from the Michigan Tobacco Quitline through Sept. 30

LANSING, Mich. – There is still time to take advantage of the Michigan Tobacco Quitline’s summer promotion of free nicotine patches, gum or lozenges. Use of these types of medications can double a person’s chances of quitting tobacco for good.

Up to eight weeks of free nicotine patches, gum or lozenges are available to Michigan residents who call the Quitline at 1-800-QUIT NOW through September 30. Enrollment is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“Smoking is the leading cause of preventable death and disease in the U.S.,” said Ingham County Health Officer Linda S. Vail. “People know that smoking isn’t good for them, but nicotine is very addictive, making it very difficult to quit. Extra support can help people meet their health goals related to tobacco use.”

The Michigan Tobacco Quitline is an evidence-based service providing free telephone and online coaching and text messaging. More than 140,000 Michigan residents have used the Quitline or the online coaching program to help them in their journey towards a tobacco-free life.

The Quitline is available 24/7 in multiple languages. People who use tobacco and want to quit can contact the Quitline directly at 1-800-QUIT-NOW, or enroll online at Providers in all health care settings are also encouraged to refer their patients and clients to the Quitline.
