MASON, Mich. – Up to ten tires may be dropped off for recycling, free of charge, at the Ingham County Road Department on Saturday, June 3, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The scrap tire collection is a partnership between the Ingham County Health Department, the Charter Township of Meridian and the Eaton County Resource Recovery Department. It is funded in part by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality.
“Scrap tires are an environmental concern,” said Ingham County Health Officer Linda S. Vail. “They are flammable, can leach chemicals into the ground and may serve as a breeding ground for mosquitoes. By recycling unwanted tires, we can eliminate these concerns and turn waste into a usable product.”
Residential, tractor and semi tires will be accepted. Tires may be with or without rims.
